Frassati Running Club is a community of athletes seeking to grow in holiness, develop excellence in running, and develop friendships rooted in the pursuit of both. Inspired by Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati’s model of living "verso l’alto" we seek to do everything to the heights. To that end, FRC looks to inspire the community to direct its efforts - both in running and in building the Kingdom - to what is excellent and what is holy.
Our Running Club
Inspired by the life of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, this club was started to more directly connect going after big running goals with striving to live achieve daily holiness.
Team members actively look to root training in a life of prayer and stick to a prayer routine as one would a running regimen. It's hard to stick each at times but we know from experience that, even when runs don't work out well or a prayer seems dry, consistency and a long view pay great dividends in the end.
Our team has a weekly newsletter, The Long Run, which comes out every Saturday; there is a virtual workout of the week posted weekly to our team Strava page, and our team calendar shows when we are racing so that other team members may cheer us on either in person or in spirit. You can also follow us along at our instagram page.
Who Was Pier Giorgio?
Pier Giorgio Frassati grew up in Italy at the start of the 20th Century. With a deep devotion for the Eucharist and to the Blessed Mother, Pier Giorgio developed a profound love for Jesus Christ. It was his love of the Lord that lead Pier Giorgio to caring for the poor and sick through his service in the Vincent dePaul society. An avid youth, Pier Giorgio saw his involvement in local politcal organizations and student activism as a way to spread the Gospel message in the shadow of Fascism. He would often inspire his fellow students while on outdoors adventures to stir up their own love of Christ and, in doing so, be drawn more deeply to the Eucharist and to the marginalized of society. A lover of the arts, the outdoors, a good book and a quiet walk through town, Pier Giorgio inspires us to seek God in all of creation. It was, of course, his regular attendance at mass, trust in the Blessed Mother and abiding love for the Sacrament that allowed him to see God more fully in all of creation. May we, like Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, be moved to find God in the wildness of creation and, most fully, in the wonder of the Eucharist.
